PSIA CLINICS ARE HELD Each Year at WHITE GRASS* (THIS IS LAST YEARS INFO)
Hi Chip,
Here is a summary of our 2002 PSIA XC Ski Course.
(PSIA guru Randy French talking
)
Sunday, Jan 6th, 8:30 to 4:30pm (LAST YEAR)
How to: A one day Cross -Country Skiing for Fun and
Improvement Day Price $50 PSIA Member, $65 for nonmember
Randy French travels to White Grass to bring you the latest and greatest tips
on how to track ski easier, and have more fun while skiing. Start your day with
traditional skiing skills of kick and glide, double pole and kick double pole.
Finish your day with skating some nifty hill moves.
We will gather at 8:30 am to register, get skis ready and to help develop a
focus for the day so that you can provide input into the information you want
to learn. A small amount of time will be spent determining what your goals are
for the day so that Randy can direct the goals and skiing to your ability.
Around 9:00am we head outside for a warm up ski and to sample the wonderful
White Grass Ski conditions. Let's play a few games on skis to learn names and
to loosen up. Remember, skiing is fun. We will do some group drills to help
us with balance, weight transfer, and other skills that apply to diagonal stride.
Mixed in with these group activities you will get individual feedback from Randy.
Moving on to step turns and double pole we will do some task specific activities
that will focus on helping you move efficiently on your skis. Mixed through
the morning will be different styles of learning so that if you like to do,
we can do plenty of that. If you like to watch and think about skiing we will
do that. This will make the learning varied and fun for you.
Before lunch we should play some ski soccer and other games.
The afternoon will be spent learning to skate. You will need waxable skis and
taller poles for this. We will try a mix of several approaches. Try skating
without poles, try learning a simple pole and skate together technique. By the
end of the afternoon Randy will give you individual feedback on where to head
with your skating.
The day will focus on fun drills, games and exercises to do to learn to ski
easier and with less energy. The information will be presented in a progressive
manner so that you will be able to remember the information after you leave.
January 7th and 8th, Monday and Tuesday (LAST YEAR)

Cross-Country Skiing-How to Improve : A
two day seminar.
Spend 2 days skiing and learning with Randy French, from the Great White North. Deep in West Virginia you will have a chance to improve both your classical and skate skiing. With 2 days you can get lots of personal attention and some new ideas on how to move on your skis. The days will build progressively so you will master some skills, and start to learn others. This is a great way to start your January skiing so that you will be motivated and have some fun ways to improve your skiing this winter.
Join us Monday morning at 8:30 am as we prepare for 2 days of fun and exciting
skiing. We will gear the days to your skill level and interest by starting with
discussing your goals before we head off the wilds of White Grass. We will likely
split each day into part classical skiing and part skate skiing. This will help
make all of your muscles evenly tired by the end of the day.
The classical skiing will focus on adding more glide and power for each stride.
In double pole we will look at using our big muscle groups for propulsion not
just our arms. If kick wax seems like magic we can make that easy too.
What is kick double pole anyway? We will answer that. How can I corner quicker
and more stable? The answer is included with course participation. So there
is a new skate technique? Is it just the clothes? It won't be new or mysterious
after 2 days. Solve the riddle of V-1, V-2, or V-2 alternate. With 2 days you
will try different fun drills and ski activities that will amuse you as well
as improve your skiing.
Some activities will be done with the group. We will also split into partners
and learn to look at skiing to help us understand what makes us go. If you are
involved in teaching, you can experience different ways to learn and teach.
The only thing more fun than a day of skiing is 2 days of skiing.
I appreciate all the work that you do in bringing me down, it is very fun.
Hopefully Deb can come ski with me in West Virginia in the next year or two.
This was not a good year for that, we are heading to the Methow Valley in Wash.
for a hut to hut together.
Randy French, PSIA
how can you resist? This guy can ski smoother than any southern hillbilly
could ever imagine. He is lightening fast, besides.
